The Story of Strandgaarden

Hotel Strandgaarden is one of Denmark’s historic beach hotels and has been welcoming guests to experience the beauty of Læsø for nearly 100 years.

Strandgaarden was built in 1727 and boasts a rich history, originally serving as a summer guesthouse from 1926. However, it wasn’t until 1947 that the property became the renowned beach hotel, when it was purchased by Oda Mortensen.

Initially, Oda Mortensen had no plans to run a guesthouse and instead tried her hand at running a laundry service and turkey farming in the attic. But when guests insisted on visiting the property, Oda eventually gave in.

She ran Strandgaarden with great dedication until her passing in 1993 at the age of 80. Oda was known for personally cooking hearty, delicious meals for her guests.

Today, Hotel Strandgaarden operates as a seasonal beach hotel, open for bookings during the summer months, while it remains closed for the rest of the year.
